Advisory Panel Lord Puttnam (chair)

Interim Management Group Dr Brian Male (Interim CEO) |
How does it operate? At this early stage, people are giving their time freely to get the organisation set up. There is an Advisory Panel and an Interim Management Group. The Panel advises on the overall educational and strategic direction. The management group have been instrumental in setting up the Foundation and making sure that it operates. As the Foundation grows, a more robust structure will be needed, and also a process by which members of the Foundation can play a part in forming the management group. This will be in place by May 2010 when it should be possible to judge whether there is sufficient income to appoint a CEO and administration team. As the Foundation is already busy enough to require more central direction, Brian Male has acting as CEO on a casual basis until the budget allows for a permanent arrangement to be made – he will then be stepping down. We still need volunteers to help run the Foundation, so if you could offer any help, particularly with: • contributing to and running the website then please contact Brian at brianmale@curriculumfoundation.org
The Foundation’s Finances. As Mick Waters said at the inaugural conference: “We are a not-for-profit organisation. That means we’re broke!” Luckily we are not entirely broke – but can only operate at the moment through the contribution of volunteers. The inaugural conference raised sufficient money for the Foundation’s set-up costs (lawyers, publicity, website designers etc) and for a small amount of admin support. The main campaigning work of the Foundation – providing a strong voice for the whole curriculum at a time when it certainly needs a strong voice speaking up for it – is costly in terms of time and publicity. We also want to be pro-active in running curriculum projects and research. So a healthy income is essential to our mission. The ongoing work of the Foundation raises further income. The Foundation charges for the conferences and for the services it offers to schools, clusters and local authorities, but has to pay the people who carry out the work. Between 10 and 15% of each fee (depending on the nature of the work) goes to the Foundation. This is used for necessary administration and the website etc., and any excess profit will be used to support curriculum projects and research. The main income will be from conferences that are run by the Foundation. A series of eight conferences is planned for the Spring and Summer Terms – details of which are on this website. The final source of income is sponsorship and we are in discussion with some possible sponsors. However, although the income would be very helpful to the running of the Foundation, it is also essential that we remain totally independent so that we can continue to be the strong voice for the whole curriculum. If you have expertise in this area and would like to help (or if you are extremely rich and wish to make a donation!!) then contact office@curriculumfoundation.org |
